Child Care Centre Expansion
of École catholique Saint-Edmond in Windsor

Windsor, September 27, 2023 —The government has issued a written announcement of funding for the expansion of day care services at École élémentaire catholique Saint-Edmond. The Ontario Ministry of Education is supporting Conseil scolaire catholique Providence (Csc Providence) with an investment totalling $1.24 million. This expansion will create 15 additional child care spaces in the Windsor area.

Currently, École élémentaire catholique Saint-Edmond offers child care services for children aged 2.5 to 5 years, as well as for school-age children. Government funding will enable the addition of child care services for toddlers aged 18 to 30 months.

“We are determined to build schools and child care expansions faster, part of our commitment to modernize learning spaces in fast growing communities," said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. "We are proud to support French-language education and deliver a child care centre expansion at École catholique Saint-Edmond for French-speaking families in Windsor. By expanding this school and increasing funding and staffing, supported by a back-to-basics focus on reading, writing and math skills, we are working to ensure students graduate with confidence that they can succeed in good-paying careers."

“Conseil scolaire catholique Providence would like to thank the Ontario Ministry of Education for the funds it has invested in École élémentaire catholique Saint-Edmond in Windsor. This major investment shows how important and vital French-language education is in Southwest Ontario. The expanded space will allow more children in the Csc Providence board to benefit from high-quality educational services as they grow and develop. This announcement is great news for families who are looking for day care services for French-speaking children. We are looking forward to starting the work in the very near future,” said Board Chairman Jacques Kenny.

“This expansion project will enable us to better serve our French-speaking Catholic school communities in the Windsor area. The addition of day care spaces is essential to the development of the French and Catholic identity of our region’s children. We are eager to begin construction of the expanded space in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. We are deeply grateful to the Ontario Ministry of Education for these concrete actions,” said Acting Director of Education Carolyn Bastien.

Thanks to its highly qualified and dedicated staff, École élémentaire catholique Saint-Edmond in Windsor is able to provide quality education to a growing student population of more than 300 students, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, including day care services. École catholique Saint-Edmond is known for the excellent support services it provides to newcomer families in Canada through the Csc Providence hosting and integration program.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Providence provides education to nearly 10,000 students in 23 elementary schools and 8 secondary schools. In addition to having the highest graduation rate in Ontario (97.9%) among all French and English school boards, Csc Providence offers programs aimed at the success of all students, an education based on Catholic values, high-quality French and a bilingualism certificate.
